Starting my MBA journey in London was nothing short of a rollercoaster ride, filled with excitement, challenges, and unforgettable moments. As an international student, I navigated through the complexities of applications, visa processes, accommodations, studies, and friendships- all of which shaped me in ways I never imagined.

The Beginning: From Applications to Touchdown
It all began with my application to the University of West London (UWL). I had just 15 days to prepare for the IELTS exam, but I cleared it with a solid 7-band score. The university application went surprisingly smoothly; I received my offer letter within two weeks and soon cleared the CAS interview, which lasted about 30 minutes and was packed with questions.
With the CAS in hand, I applied for a priority visa and booked my flight via Kuwait Airways. On 27th August 2023, I landed at Heathrow, excited, nervous, and wide-eyed for the journey ahead. Fortunately, I had a friend already in London who helped me settle in. We shared a room in a bungalow in Wembley, an area popular among Indian students, known for its access to Indian groceries and restaurants.
Tip for Future Students:
If you're looking for familiarity and comfort, Wembley is great for staying connected to your roots. But if you’re chasing a more multicultural experience, exploring other areas is worth it!
MBA Life at the University of West London
I began my MBA at UWL’s Brentford campus, which was modern, vibrant, and well-equipped. Each subject had 3-hour sessions blending theory with presentations, a format that kept us involved and well-prepared for real-world business challenges.
The initial months passed smoothly. However, the shared living arrangement soon proved challenging. Without going into details, I realized that living with friends isn’t always ideal. So, I made a decision that changed everything, I moved to student accommodation at Pavilion Court.

Tip for Future Students:
Student accommodations offer much more than just a place to stay. They create the perfect environment to build friendships, networks, and experience authentic student life—something often missing in private rentals.
Living in Student Accomodation And Made close Friends: A Turning Point
Moving into Pavilion Court was one of my best decisions—even with the £900 monthly rent. The value lay not just in the facilities but in the people I met. I became friends with Pooja, Sanji, Mayur, Divyam, Mansi, and Ruby. Together, we shared late-night assignment marathons, study sessions, and countless meals in our shared kitchen.
Mayur turned out to be our unofficial chef, whipping up delicious Indian food, while Pooja and I managed the chopping and rotis. And Sanji? She was our “moral support specialist”—always present, never chopping! Grocery shopping became a communal effort since we all lived on the same floor, making everyday life feel like a family routine.

Tip for Future Students:
Don’t underestimate the power of friendships in a new country. A strong support circle helps you stay motivated, manage stress, and actually enjoy the journey.
The Great Move: Finding a New Home
After 8 months, our tenancy at Pavilion Court was ending—but none of us wanted to go separate ways. Finding a new place that suited all of us and fit our budget was an adventure of its own! Eventually, we found a spot just five minutes away.
Instead of hiring movers, we got creative—we used Costco trolleys to shift everything! Packing and moving overnight before the checkout deadline was chaotic yet fun. Thankfully, the university staff pitched in to help. We moved into Canvas Student Accommodation and spent two more memorable months there.

Tip for Future Students:
Start your accommodation hunt at least a month in advance. Affordable and decent places in London get snapped up fast—planning ahead saves stress.
Exploring London: My Favourite Spots
In between all the lectures, assignments, and housing chaos, I made it a point to explore the city. Some places that truly stole my heart:
Camden Market – A vibe like no other, filled with quirky stores and mouthwatering street food.
Primrose Hill – Perfect for sunset views and quiet reflection overlooking the city skyline.
Tower Bridge – A timeless London icon that never fails to amaze.
The Dissertation & Graduation Moment
With lectures behind me, the real academic challenge kicked in—my dissertation. I chose the topic “Evaluating the Effectiveness of Influencer Marketing on Fashion Branding.” I dedicated countless hours, day and night, to complete it. Submitting it felt like crossing the finish line of a marathon.
When the results came, and I saw that I had passed, I was overwhelmed. It was a deeply emotional moment—for me, for my family, and especially for my mom. The hard work had paid off.
On 3rd December 2024, I attended my graduation ceremony. Wearing that gown, walking the stage as the Vice Chancellor called my name that moment wasn’t just mine. It belonged to everyone who believed in me and stood by me.

What’s Next? Enter the Real World
Post-graduation, I took a well-earned break and traveled across the UK. In January 2025, I applied for my Post-Study Work (PSW) visa—officially stepping into the next chapter: the job hunt.
Final Thoughts & Advice for Future International Students
Plan Ahead – Begin your applications early and don’t rush IELTS prep.
Choose Wisely – Student accommodations are worth it for the social and academic support.
Balance Your Life – Study hard but don’t forget to explore and enjoy.
Budget Smartly – London is expensive; every pound counts.
